We’re often asked what are the best tech blogs or the best IT management blogs and news sites to keep tabs on, so we’ve decided to compile a go-to list of those we tend to monitor daily. Feel free to go ahead and add them to your bookmarks!
Long before fashion and lifestyle blogs arrived on the scene, the tech world were fully tuning in regularly to online IT management news aggregator websites and up-and-coming tech blogs. Today, there are hundreds of blogs that are superbly informative and excel at breaking the news on current trends and the latest developments. Most of the IT procurement managers we deal with would tell you they’d be lost in their tech career without them!
Without further ado, here’s our current list of our favourite IT management blogs:
More and more of the best “tech blogs” are in fact sites that act as a forum for several different thought leaders, IT experts, long-time IT procurement managers and bloggers. Computerworld’s blog is a great example of this (the clue is in the url!). Computerworld blogs cover a wide range of technology topics, including reviews on printers, photocopiers, LCD screens, tablets, software, security systems, operating systems, storage, servers and much more. As one of the oldest and most respected IT magazines, Computerworld has an established audience but their constant supply of tonnes of useful content will to keep you up-to-date on the IT hardware landscape. Top tip: type ‘printers’ into the search bar and watch a sea of all the latest information appear in front of you – from 3D printer developments to quick fixes for operating system bugs. We also love ‘Apple Holic’ by Jonny Evans to remain updated on all things Apple.
In online environments, ten years is a serious lifetime, so 20 is practically an eternity! ZDNet's breaking news, analysis, and research keeps business technology professionals in touch with the latest IT trends, issues and events. Previously known as “ZiffNet”, this outstanding tech blog was founded in 1991, formerly on CompuServe and Prodigy, and then purchased in 2000 by the well established CNET. ZDNet reports on a variety of tech news, with a great focus on the most interesting developments in IT hardware (including what the latest brands are releasing by way of printers, photocopiers, pricing trends and practical equipment specifications and capability outlines. While they focus heavily on the usual suspects (Apple, Microsoft, Google), ZDNet also features user product reviews, software downloads and tons of news and analysis on tech businesses and real issues.
ITBusinessEdge.com is the place to go for a mix of news, marketplace analysis product/service trends. Delivering in-depth accounts from their technology trend tracking, they provide a solution-oriented angle to their content that’s great for helping IT managers devise solid procurement and system management strategies. ITBE is for established tech professionals - an all-encompassing site that never misses the news to indicate what you’re working on or with may soon obsolete and that tech company you thought was king was just bought over and re-structured. Print IT Reseller describes itself as the provider of essential print, MFP & print software information for VARS, converged resellers & MFP dealers. Don’t be put off if you’re not on the reselling end of things – it’s one of the best IT management blogs to help office managers find information that will help them make very wise purchasing decisions. Expect to find discussions on industry-wide challenges, future forecasts and insights outlining the impact of new technologies on commercial printing environments. And what’s more, they offer free downloads of their print magazine too!
Very different from the rest of the ‘news-type’ sites listed above, How-To-Geek is a great resource to find help, tutorials, tips and how-to guides for all office IT related issues. We constantly send articles out to clients who are struggling with relatively straight-forward network errors, hardware failures and operating system headaches! Describing themselves as an online tech magazine for IT geeks, you can expect everything from interesting IT hardware update articles, top tips, printer product reviews and some fun trivia (well.. fun for IT profressionals anyway!). What we love most? How-To-Geek makes sure that the content is understandable for “regular” people, meaning that you can share best practice guides with some of the lesser IT proficient members of your team to save yourself some support tickets!
